Hanging Out on the Property with Austin

Things are starting to move forward with our dream home!

Over the past week Core Electric (our electric co-op) came out to the property and performed an engineering survey. We're expecting to get their schematic within the next couple of weeks.

On the same day Bob met with the engineer, he also met with a prospective contractor to put in our driveway and install the septic system. Since we already have the driveway permit, we're just waiting on his estimate to possibly get started. It'll be great to finally be able to drive onto our property.

We also got the final engineering plans for the house from our architect earlier this week so we can submit them to the county for our building permit. Lots of great things happening and feels like things are finally moving forward.



Austin joined Bob on the day after Thanksgiving at the property to do some cutting. We had a big tree that had been toppled over that we needed to trim branches from and cut up.







Taking in the view from the spot that will be the back of our great room. Just can't wait to wake up with a cup of coffee and that view every morning!

Foundation Walls and Back-Filling

January has seen some nice movement on our home construction. Forms were put up and then Girardo and his crew filled them in. Once the walls were put up, we both had to take our over-sized rollers and roll tar onto the outside portions of the walls to waterproof them from moisture. Laura's dad, Lee, was a huge help by knocking off 'tabs' that were left over from the concrete forms and by painting tar into the crevice between the walls and the footer. All the waterproofing had to be completed for our next approval by the county before we could move on. That darn, blasted rock!

  We had a giant, 25' x 15' granite rock that stood in the way of getting our foundation in so we had to blast with dynamite. We thought it was going to be a giant, spectacular blast. As you can see, it wasn't quite what we expected. Here are some of the rocks they pulled out after it was blasted. Some look like could easily come loose and roll into our RV! Here's the same area smoothed out by the excavator.
